Sync an article from a URL

How to keep a knowledge base article up to date automatically by fetching its content from a public URL.

If the content of an article already lives somewhere else, for example a Markdown or plain-text file on your server, Fibly can fetch it automatically. You don't have to copy changes into the panel by hand: the article updates itself.

How to enable it

  1. Open the article in the Knowledge base tab.
  2. In the Sync from URL card next to the editor, click Enable sync.
  3. Enter the Public source URL and confirm with Enable sync.

The first fetch happens within 10 minutes. After that, Fibly checks the address every 10 minutes and replaces the article's content whenever it changes.

While sync is on, the editor is locked, because the content comes from the URL. The Sync from URL card shows the time of the last successful sync and any error from the last attempt.

Requirements for the URL

  • It must start with http:// or https:// and be publicly reachable.
  • It must respond within 400 ms. A slower response counts as a failed sync.
  • The response must be text (for example Markdown or plain text), not a binary file such as a PDF.
  • Content over 20 KiB is cut off: only the beginning is stored, and that is what the bot uses. The card warns you when this happens.
  • Each URL can be synced into only one article.

Changing or turning off sync

Use the menu on the Sync from URL card:

  • Change URL: fetch the content from a different address from now on.
  • Disable sync: stop fetching. The current content stays in the article, and the editor is unlocked again.

What's next

Synced articles work like any other: you can pin them and link them with prerequisites.
